Thank you to Ginny Krekling for preaching today.

Pastor Dennis will be on vacation July 29-August 25. Pastor Ginny Krekling will preach August 4 and 11. Pastor Mary Johnson will preach August 18 and 25.  Pastor Mary is also available to handle emergencies, 607-9130.

Flowers:  Do you have garden flowers that you would like to share on Sunday morning? Please let the Church Office know or signup on the Flower Chart.  Thank you!

Financial Statements: The first half of 2013 financial statements are ready to be picked up. They are on a table in the Fellowship Hall. If you have an email address on file with the church office, they were sent to you via email.

Clothing Bank Donations: You may have noticed the donations box under the coat rack. The remodeled clothing bank at the Methodist Church gladly accepts your donations.

Can you help us mow the lawn?  There are 7 weeks left blank now on the sign-up in the fellowship hall (thank you to those who have signed up to help out).  The church has all the equipment needed.  The grass clippings can go in the dumpster.  Can you take a week or more?  See Mike Luvera or James Stolte to find out how to get into the shed and dumpster or if you would like more information.

Summer Youth Program: We're two months into summer, but we still have a few key events and opportunities this August (including the Moses Lake Waterpark trip and Bible Memorization Lunch). The Youth Summer Schedule is still available at FLC's web site (www.flc-eburg.org/ministry/youth-summer) or contact Joe Johnson at flcyouth.eburg@gmail.comfor more details.

New Event! High School Movie Night: 8/11 6:30–8:30 (Replaces the High School Home Study) The Neustels are hosting a movie night at their house, starting at 6:30. High School Youth are invited to watch a movie that brings up important theological questions, such as "do we live our lives for personal glory or the benefit of others" and "can a man of God wear stretchy pants"—Nacho Libre. Plus, there will be snacks. There is more parking in the back in the driveway off of Game Farm Road, just across from Pfenning. Feel free to contact Scott or Judene with any questions or to RSVP: sjneustel@hotmail.com.

Some Youth Event Cancelations: Joe will be out of town for a few days in August. Unfortunately, this means a few events will be cancelled. These canceled events include the Fall Event Planning Meeting (Sunday 8/11), High School Home Study (Sunday 8/11), and Open Gym/Office (Tuesday 8/13).

Moses Lake Waterpark: 8/20 9:30–5:00 We survived last year, so we’re going back to the Moses Lake Surf 'n Slide Water Park. [$8–$10, depending on age]. We also need a few drivers. Although this is technically a "Youth" event, it's a great opportunity for whole families to join us. To RSVP—as a driver or attendee—please go to the Youth page on the FLC site or email Joe at flcyouth.eburg@gmail.com.

Final High School Home Study: 8/18 7:00–8:00 at Sarah and Ryan's. We'll do our final Bible study of the summer, Sunday evening. Please set this time aside and join us.

August Youth-Adult Book: 8/25 6:30–8:00 The August book was a tie between Elisabeth Elliot's first-hand account of five young missionaries in Ecuador, Through Gates of Splendor (ISBN 0842371524) and Calvin Miller's allegorical poem/story of the Gospel, The Singer (ISBN 0830822852). We split the tie in a biblical way: casting lots (in this case, flipping a coin). Our August book will be Through Gates of Splendor. This is a fantastic book that tells a remarkable true story. Also, it raises some questions about God's calling and how it can change everything. Please, please read this. And remember, this isn't just for Youth. [Updates coming on the meeting place.]

Bible Memorization Challenge: 8/28 12:00–1:30 Memorize ten Bible passages by Thursday, August 29, and the Youth program will buy you lunch at Bleachers on University Way, 12:00–1:30 on Thursday, August 29. Download a copy of the selected verses: (http://www.flc-eburg.org/ministry/youth-summer). You have all summer to memorize these ten and recite them. Start now! (So far, we have one person who has memorized and recited seven....)

Email Updates: Would you like to receive FLC news, Youth updates, Prayer Requests, and/or Sunday School info through email? If so, then be sure to signup on the FLC Email Notification list. You can find a quick form on the FLC web site. Please signup now, and keep connected.

VENTURES FOR GROWING STEWARDS, Information Meeting Sunday, August 18th  1:30-3pm Central Lutheran Church, Yakima 1604 W. Yakima Ave. Yakima WA ph: (509) 575 6490 “Ventures” has been taught in the ELCA since 1999. Over 700 congregations have learned how to develop an effective stewardship ministry. It is updated regularly, well organized and comprehensive. The resources are fabulous. This introductory meeting will explain the Ventures workshops; what you will learn and the benefits. You will get a sense for the approach as being a cultural shift in the whole congregation to a spirit of gratitude and generosity. It is about growing stewards. The meeting will describe the level of commitment involved, how to select a Ventures stewardship team for your congregation, the pre-workshop preparation, the fee, schedule and ongoing support. Taking this workshop series is a journey because everyone learns together and has conversations about the challenges and opportunities of year round stewardship that is well planned out. Who would have thought stewardship education could be an exciting way to grow in faith! For any questions contact helga.jansons@elca.org  or call 509 380-7122
