Advent Service of Lessons and Carols, Grace Episcopal Church ~ 1201 N. B St.  Today, Dec 17th at 3pm. This wonderful ecumenical worship service has been happening in Ellensburg since 1988.  This service was first presented at King’s College, Cambridge in 1918.  The congregation joins in singing many Christmas carols.  Choirs from a number of churches, including First Lutheran, sing separately and then as a combined choir.  Pastors from different churches read the scripture lessons and a whole host of scrumptious cookies await you at the fellowship time afterwards.

Weekend nutrition for hungry kids First Lutheran has an exciting new opportunity to reduce hunger in our community.  In partnership with FISH Food Bank, we will be providing weekend nutrition for about 15 needy kids at Lincoln Elementary School, and possibly for about 6 kids at Morgan Middle School.  Our Food Bank contact person, Judy Ragland has placed a box under the coat rack with a suggested list of non-perishable and easy to prepare food items.  FLC will also order some foods through the Food Bank since FISH can get them at a greatly reduced price.  We will pack bags of food on Thursday and deliver them to Lincoln Elementary.  Teachers then discreetly hand them out to needy children on Fridays.  Your donations are greatly appreciated.  If you prefer to give a check, please make it out to First Lutheran Church and mark “Weekend Nutrition Program” in the memo line.  Thank you for helping to alleviate hunger in our community!

Examples of food items needed: cans of chili, ravioli, spaghettios, tuna fish, canned chicken, chicken noodle or tomato soup, protein bars, 6oz juice, 4 oz applesauce or fruit cups, prepared puddings, packages of crackers and cheese or peanut butter, 6oz packages of fruit snacks or raisins, packages of hot chocolate or apple cider, breakfast cookies, nutria grain bars, granola bars, shelf stable milk, instant oatmeal.

Cold Weather Shelter for homeless people   Thursday Nights are at First Lutheran. The weekly schedule is:  Mon - Calvery Baptist,  Tue - First Christian, Wed-Foursquare, Thurs—First Lutheran,  Fri—Chestnut St. Baptist,  Sat—Mercer Creek,  Sun—7th Day Adventist.  Please call me 925-2844 church or 929-2927 cell or e-mail flceburg@yahoo and let me know and/or indicate on your Time & Talent sheet that you are willing or go to www.signup.com

Blessings upon you,  Pastor Dennis

Operating the shelter does cost the church money of course, heat, lights, hot water for showers and laundry. Would you like to sponsor a shelter night for about $30? If so just make checks out to “First Lutheran” and write “Cold Weather Shelter” on the memo line. Thank you!!

Please sign up to bring cookies or other refreshments for fellowship time after the service.  There are lots of empty dates!  The sign-up is on the kitchen door.  Thank you!
