Thank you to Kathy Temple for accompanying the choir.

Constitution and By-laws meeting TODAY, after worship. Thanks to Neil Caulkins for all his work on updating our constitution.

The Wednesday Soup and Bread Supper will be hosted this week by members of the Worship and Music.  Please join us at 6:00 p.m. for a delicious meal. At 6:40 we’ll watch Albert Haase’s “Keeping the Fire Alive” (we saw his presentations on Spiritual transformation a year ago in Lent).  Then at 7:10 pm we’ll move into the sanctuary for a 20 minute Holden Evening Prayer service.  Come as you are to these fun and informal evenings of good food, fellowship, Bible study and worship. The following ministries are hosting soup suppers:

Education and Youth—March 2nd

Congregational Life—March 9th

Outreach—March 16th

FLC will take a turn cooking and serving the FISH Food Bank Dinner this Saturday, February 27th. We start cooking and prepping at 3p, serve at 5p and are usually all cleaned up by 6:20. Please, let Pastor Dennis know if you can help.

Free: If you would like to have an old green Lutheran Book of Worship, please help yourself. The church will hold on to 20-30, but please take home any of the LBW’s on the book cart near the coat rack.

First Communion Classes Sundays Feb 28 & March 6 after worship. I am inviting all young people in about 4th grade to two classes on the Lord’s Supper.  I will leave it up to parents as to when you think your child is ready to receive holy communion.  The book we use, “A Place for You” by Pastor Dan Erlander is written at about a 3rd grade reading level.  We will also look up some Bible passages and each student is asked to create a first communion project out of paper/clay/fabric/wood/legos/paint or just about anything.  If there are students older than 4th grade, who are not yet receiving the bread and wine of the Lord’s Supper, but would like to, you are certainly welcome to join in.  The plan would be for students to receive their first communion on March 13th, or any time after that. Please, let the Church office or Pastor Dennis, know if you will be attending.

Church Phone Directory Update: Do you have a new address, phone number, email address that you would like included or other changes?  If so, please stop by thefree-standing bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall to make the changes for our 2016 DirectoryThe annual publication isn’t just for members, but for members and friends of First Lutheran Church.  If you don’t see your name and would like to be in the directory, please add your name to the list.  Please put a check mark, next to your name to show that you have checked to make sure that your information is correct.  Thank you!

A Lenten Mission:  First Lutheran is hoping to send several “Personal Care Kits” through Lutheran World Relief to those who are fleeing their homeland with very few personal belongings.   Your gifts will make their way into the hands of Syrian refugees applying for asylum in Serbia.  These kits provide refugees with items that are greatly needed but are unable to be purchased due to their cost.  Please see the display table in the fellowship hall with a list of needed items to complete the kits.  You may purchase a few or all of the items needed and we will be collecting them through Lent. Please put items in the box under the table.  For more information go to:  lwr.org/kits

Munch Madness: In support of the local FISH Food Bank, FLC will be participating in the annual Ellensburg Morning Rotary Munch Madness competition. The goal is to engage the Ellensburg area business and organizations in a friendly competition against each other to raise food for F.I.S.H. Food Bank. The Munch Madness competition will be structured similar to the NCAA “March Madness” college basketball tournament. Business and organizations participating will be placed in tournament style brackets as a team, and on a weekly basis from the dates of February 22 to March 18 teams will collect food.  On Fridays during these dates, teams will bring their collected food to the Food Bank from the hours of 3-5p for weigh in. Results will be published in the Daily Record and posted on the Ellensburg Morning Rotary Much Madness Facebook page.

Cold Weather Shelter for homeless people   Thursday Nights at First Lutheran. The weekly schedule is:  Mon/Tues—First Christian,  Wed—-First Methodist,  Thurs—First  Lutheran,  Fri—Chestnut St. Baptist,  Sat—Mercer Creek,  Sun—Community of Christ.  Please call me 925-2844 church or 933-2605 home or e-mail flceburg@yahoo and let me know and/or indicate on your Time & Talent sheet that you are willing or go to www.volunteerspot.com and sign up.  Blessings upon you,  Pastor Dennis

Operating the shelter does cost the church money of course, heat, lights, hot water for showers and laundry. Would you like to sponsor a shelter night for about $30? If so just make checks out to “First Lutheran” and write “Cold Weather Shelter” in the memo line. Thank you!! February 25th will be our last night.

Lutherhaven Ministries:  Hike, swim, crafts, sing, challenge course, archery, explore, canoe, campout, Bible encounters, new friends, campfires… sounds great, doesn’t it?  For 70 years tens of thousands of campers have attended Lutherhaven on beautiful Lake Coeur d’ Alene.  Weekly camps this summer are offered starting June 19 for grades 3-12 (five nights) and grades 1-2 (two nights).  Pick up a brochure on the kids’ table in the fellowship hall, find your camp program and register online.  Lutherhaven offers reduced pricing (see the brochure) and First Lutheran offers “Camperships” to each camper to help defray the cost.  In addition, Lutherhaven offers an early registration discount of $20 if paid by April 1.  For more info about FLC Camperships, please contact Carla Bergman.
