Flowers for today are provided by Sheila Johnson in honor of granddaughter Bailey's 11th birthday.

 

Financial Statement – The end of the year financial statements are available to be picked up in the fellowship hall.

 

Our friend Sylvia Nelson died December 26th, at the age of 91. A memorial service will be held here in April. We thank God for Sylvia’s life and commend her to God’s everlasting care.

 

Annual Reports due by TODAY, January 14th 

            If you head up a ministry or lead a group, please submit a brief written report for our annual report packets.  It doesn’t have to be long, just tell us what you have been doing this past year as a way of celebrating your good work.  Tell a story!

 

Budget Forum Next Sunday, January 21st

              Our budget forum, will be Sunday, January 21st in the fellowship hall.  If you have questions or input about the church budget, please come to the 9am budget forum on the 21st. (Don’t wait until the annual meeting.)

 

Annual Meeting of First Lutheran Church: Sunday, Jan 28th

            Our youth will be serving their fabulous baked potato bar.  Immediately after lunch we will have our annual meeting, the main purpose of which is to pass an annual budget and elect church council members.  So we need all voting members to stay for a brief meeting.  (If you are an adult or a confirmed youth, you are a voting member.)

            A budget forum will be held on Sun. Jan 21 at 9am in the fellowship hall.  If you have questions or input about the budget, that is the time.

 

Special Giving to FISH Food Bank for December was $1,076.00.

 

Cold Weather Shelter for homeless people   Thursday Nights are at First Lutheran. The weekly schedule is:  Mon - Calvery Baptist,  Tue - First Christian, Wed-Foursquare,  Thurs—First Lutheran,  Fri—Chestnut St. Baptist,  Sat—Mercer Creek,  Sun—7th Day Adventist.  Please call me 925-2844 church or 933-2605 home or e-mail flceburg@yahoo and let me know and/or indicate on your Time & Talent sheet that you are willing or go to www.signup.com and sign up.

            Operating the shelter does cost the church money of course, heat, lights, hot water for showers and laundry. Would you like to sponsor a shelter night for about $30? If so just make checks out to “First Lutheran” and write “Cold Weather Shelter” on the memo line. Thank you!!


ASSEMBLY PLANNING MEETING SUNDAY, JANUARY 21ST Please plan to attend the next  2018 Synod Assembly Planning Meeting on Sunday, January 21st at 6:30pm, Christ Lutheran Church, 5606 W. Lincoln Ave.  Yakima, WA.  Fall meetings were on Monday evenings, our winter meetings are on Sundays so those who haven't been available due to Monday commitments may participate.  We will discuss the planning done so far by groups working on arrangements, programming, and worship for the April 27-29, 2018 EWAID Synod Assembly in Yakima.  Your input is welcomed!  We'll meet again Sunday, February 18 and Sunday, March 18.  Call Deacon Dave Hellerich, Assembly Planning Chair (402-489-7701) with questions.  See you there!


Confirmation Retreat at Lazy F Camp February 2-3

            The retreat will come up on us fast, so please mark your calendars.  We hope there will be snow.  If there is snow, please bring warm gear for the awesome tubing hill.  There will also be time for the game room, craft room and great food in the dining hall.  Make sure you bring your sleeping bag, pillow and a toothbrush, as well as a Bible and a notebook, as we plan to cover a couple confirmation lessons.  High school youth are welcome, too. $30 per student.  Scholarships available—see Pastor Dennis.  Adults—free! We’ll plan to leave the church Fri 2/2 at 4 pm and return to church Sat at 4 or 5 pm.  It’s a really fun time! Please let Pastor Dennis know if you plan on attending. Youth Activities

FLC Youth (6th grade to 12th grade)

Here it comes!  The Annual Baked Potato Fundraiser!  Get those gloves and aprons ready for:  Saturday January 27 - Super Spud Scrubbing Party - 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

 

Saturday January 28 - Baked Potato Fundraiser (where an award winning Apron!)


*Please sign up on the board to bring items for us to serve.  The money we earn will go towards a trip to Get Air Trampoline Park and supplies to make our own FLC Youth Aprons!  


Bags of the hats, scarves, and gloves are being delivered to the schools this week!
