posted Jun 28, 2012, 10:46 AM by Christine Rice

On Sunday, July 8th Chesney Marie Day will be baptized here during our 10a.m. Worship Service. Chesney is the daughter of Michael & Sarah Day, granddaughter of Lee & Doreen Day.

Service in the Street with First Christian is set for Sunday, July 15th at 10a.m. on 6th Ave., (providing the city approves our street closure application.) Connections will lead the music. Pastor Don Green and myself  will both preach (short) sermons. We will have Holy Communion. First Lutheran will provide wine and bread. First Christian will provide grape juice and bread. It is First Lutheran’s turn to provide refreshments. I urge us to serve this outside rather than in our fellowship hall. We have light weight tables which are easy to transport. I will need help setting up chairs in the street that morning.  Pastor Dennis

Please sign up to bring refreshments (cookies, sweet bread, fruit, etc.) for July 15 for after Service in the Street.  The sign up paper is on the kitchen door.  Thank you!

Girls’ Bible Study: This summer, Amanda is hosting a bi-weekly, evening bible study for Youth girls at her apartment. It’s not too late to join. Four meetings remain: (July 14, 28, August 11, 25). This is open to all Youth girls (including our newest Youth, those students now completing fifth grade). For more information, please check with Joe or Amanda.

Yakima Bears Baseball: Yakima Bears: Join us as we travel south for some baseball. On Monday, July 2, we’ll watch the Yakima Bears take on the Spokane Indians. The game starts at 7:05. We’ll leave FLC at 5:45. Tickets will be provided by Kittitas County
Chapter of Thrivent Financial. (Chaperones and drivers needed)

Facebook and Event Updates: Although the Youth Department sends out e-mails from time-to-time, our usual way of communicating is with the Facebook page. Remember that you don’t necessarily need to be on Facebook to use that page. Just go to our address — www.facebook.com/flcyouth — and keep updated on the latest news and events. And, if you “Like” us, you can receive automatic updates and join events.

Summer Youth Schedule: Just because school ends, doesn’t mean his people stop
meeting together, worshiping him in fellowship, discipleship, and service. Youth and volunteers are needed throughout the summer to continue the work (and play) God has for us. Please pick up a copy of the summer schedule from the “kid’s table” outside the church office or request a PDF copy (flcyouth.eburg@gmail.com).

Youth Updates: Do you want Youth updates through e-mail? If so, please e-mail Joe at flcyouth.eburg@gmail.com to be included on our news and events e-mail list. You can also watch the bulletin, the FLC web site, the Youth Facebook page, and the FLARE for more information.

THANK YOU to all who helped make our Vacation Bible School a wonderful week!  Each night we had about 75 people for dinner.  Over 40 children enjoyed singing, games, crafts, and  Bible stories.  It was a great week and it wouldn't happen without people willing to serve as station leaders, crew leaders, cooks, registrars, etc.  Thank you also to all of our youth helpers and of course, to the enthusiastic children!

Our Mission Project for Vacation Bible School: Did you see the mosquito net that is up in the closet of the fellowship hall?  It’s covered with plastic mosquito clips.  All week the children brought in their coins to collect money for our ELCA Malaria Campaign.  When they put coins in the bucket, they added a mosquito clip on the net.  A treated mosquito net will keep an African family safe from malaria at night and costs about $10 each.   The kids raised $81.32. They were happy to have raised enough to buy 8 nets!  If you would like to help them in this effort, please put your pocket change in the lime green bucket on the table by the net (it’s marked “Operation Kid-to-Kid”).  All of our funds will be matched dollar for dollar by some generous friends of the ELCA Malaria Campaign, which will double the power of our VBS gift, keeping even more people safe and well.  “Tinotendo.”  Thank you.
