Confirmation Pizza Feed Wednesday, September 16th at 6:30 pm.  All 6th, 7th, and 8th graders and their parents who are interested in our Confirmation ministry are invited to a pizza feed and information time from 6:30 to 7:30 pm on Wed. Sept 16th.  This will be a good time to ask questions, get an overview of the year and sign up to be acolytes. This year we will be doing Youth Fun Nights on the 2nd Wednesday of the month.  On Sept 16th we will also walk through what you do as an acolyte on Sundays.  Actual confirmation classes will start on Wed., Sept. 23rd at 6:30 pm.  This year we will be studying the Apostles’ Creed, Baptism & Lord’s Supper and Reformation History. Please let pastor Dennis know how many from your family are coming to the Pizza Feed on Wed., Sept 16th so he orders enough food.  925-2844 church,  933-2605 home. High Schoolers are welcome to come and have pizza with us, too.

Sunday School Begins Sept. 20 The first day of Sunday School classes will be Sunday, September 20.  There has been a change of time for the younger children.  All kids age 4 through 5th grade will meet during part of the worship service immediately after “Just for Kids” time, and not at 8:45.

Middle/High School youth will continue to meet with Joe Johnson at 8:45 in the youth room off the gym, and the adult class will meet with Pastor Dennis at 8:45 in the chapel room down the hall. The adult class will continue with “Catching Fire Becoming Flame” a guide for Spiritual Transformation, with Albert Haase on DVD and book. There’s a class for everyone—hope to see you on September 20!

Cold Weather Shelter Training Sunday, September 20 11:30a Lunch is provided It’s hard to think about cold weather when it’s so hot, but winter will be upon us in a few months.  Again this year, First Lutheran will offer shelter to needy people on Thursday nights.  The game plan is to start November 1st and go through the end of February or the first part of March.  First Christian and First United Methodist and Mercer Creek Church will also be hosting nights. Pastor Cathy Stone, a friend of Methodist Pastor Jen Stewart, will be offering the training.  Cathy was instrumental in running a cold weather shelter for the homeless in Austin Texas for 10 years and has some good practical advice for us. Thank you very much to those who helped me out with the shelter last winter and I hope you are willing to help me again this year.  New volunteers are always welcome, of course.  The training will take about 90 minutes on Sunday September 20th.  (Seahawks don’t play until 5p.)  If that time does not work for you, the same training will be offered at the Methodist Church on Thursday Sept. 17th at 6pm.

In Christ,  Pastor Dennis

Youth Activities

Ongoing :  School Supply Drive!  We have a couple more weeks to go and we are still getting those supplies together!  Last day for collecting will be Sunday, September 27.  A HUGE thank you to the generous donors of the beautiful backpacks.  You know a child will be grinning from ear to ear with pride as they tote their homework around!  Thank you again!

Knitters:  It's chilly outside!  Summer might be gone and fall is at our door.  Keep those needles busy with our collection of vibrant yarn.  Pick your favorites and show off your work this December!

Next event:  September 20:  Geocaching!  See the youth board for details.

Got talent?  Of course you do!  Write your name on the youth board under the activities listed that you participate in.  We want to recognize you for all that you do!
