First Lutheran Church Council Minutes – February 8, 2021

Council Members present: Debbie Butler, Jan McElroy, Eric Merten, Rod Johnson, Ida Malde, Jennifer Campbell, Jess Holcomb, Jay Ragland, Sheila Johnson

Council members absent:

Non-council members present: Pastor Dennis Hickman and Julie Anna Boss

Devotions were given by Sheila Johnson

The March devotions will be given by Rod Johnson

It was moved by Rod Johnson, seconded by Jan McElroy, and passed to approve the January 2021 council minutes.

Old Business:

The trees are in the que with the company for removal.

Council Elections:

Moved by Debbie Butler and Second by Sheila Johnson; passed unanimously.

Ministry Groups:

Congregational Life- Ida Malde Education- Sheila Johnson

Outreach- Eric Merten Youth- Debbie Butler and Jennifer Campbell

Stewardship- Jess Holcomb and Jay Ragland Worship & Music- Rod Johnson

Property Management and Caretaking of South Property- Julie Anna Boss

New Business:

· Having the YouTube channel in the Saturday church ad in the Daily Record- Julie Anna state it was already done but will check for sure.

· We need to meet to go over goals for the future. Jess will send out the tabulation of the church survey and Council will go over them at the March 8 meeting.

Reports:

Pastor’s Report: - The full report is on file

The pastor’s written report was given to council. Items and council discussion included:

Lent Project offering will go to ELCA World Hunger. Candy and devotions will be available for all.

Men’s prayer lunches- Pastor will expand the email to invite all and those who attended formerly.

The church’s email was hacked on Friday 2/5/2021. The passwords have been changed. Isabella was a great help with her technical knowledge to work on fixing the issues.

Outreach: Eric Merten reported besides the update given by Jean Cutlip at the annual meeting on FISH turning 50 there is a Lent 40 days of giving devotional and candy tubes to eat and then fill with coins and dollars for ELCA World Hunger.

Worship and Music: Rod Johnson reported that Betty is moving along.

Stewardship: Jess Holcomb reported he is tallying the goals, strengths and weaknesses identified at FLC for discussion at the March meeting.

Youth and Education: Julie Anna Boss reported there will be Youth Wednesdays during Lent instead of Confirmation class. FLC is looking to start a women’s bible study on Thursdays during Lent. Sunday School will start again and they will look at how COVID plays a part in that.

Congregational Life: Ida Malde reported there are still no potlucks. They may try an Easter egg hunt. A Council retreat was mentioned with the possibility of hiring a Facilitator to help us identify and set goals and proceed as a successful council.

Property Management: Julie Anna Boss reported that the Snedeker family wants a tree on their property, one more family is needed. An anonymous donation was given to help with the tree removal.

South Property: Julie Anna Boss reported rents are paid and the businesses are getting busier.

Financial Report: See attached for a full report

· FLC is under budget for the year. Julie Anna will explain the balance sheet items and calculations at the April 2021 meeting.

· Contributions to FISH for January totaled $356 and 35lbs of food and 18lbs of birthday bag items.

Moved by Sheila Johnson and Second by Jan McElroy to accept the financial report as presented; passed.

Adjournment:

· The next council meeting will be held on Monday March 8, 2021 at 6:30 pm

with no ministry meetings being held in person at this time.

· The meeting was adjourned with prayer.
