POTLUCK MAY 7TH WITH

TANZANIAN GUEST PHILORIAN!

After three long years of travel restrictions and COVID scares it is an honor and privilege to once again be able to host guests from the Ulanga Kilombero Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania. General Secretary Philorian Mpendaye will be traveling through the Northwest Intermountain Synod area in April and May, and will stay in Ellensburg with Pastor Dennis and Cathy Hickman on May 6th and 7th before moving on to Yakima. Philorian visited us last in 2001 and is excited to be back!

As General Secretary, Philorian manages the business aspects of the diocese, a position he has held since 2008. He was formerly a teacher at Tumaini Lutheran Secondary School. He was part of a teacher exchange program in 2001, spending most of his time in Bonners Ferry learning new teaching methods – something he then took home and taught many other teachers. All who meet Philorian will be blessed by his wonderful spirit and quick learning.

Philorian will join us for worship on Sunday, May 7th. After the service there will be a potluck lunch, and he will share with us some news from the UKD. Come as you are and bring some food. We hope to see you there!

Spring Music Fest

May 21st at 9 a.m.

First Lutheran Church musicians are once again sharing their talents with the congregation. Please join us early on May 21st to listen to beautiful spring music in a concert hosted, organized and performed by members and friends of First Lutheran. No food will be served during the concert, but all are welcome to join us after the worship service for coffee, treats and

fellowship.

Installation of Pastor Chris Peterson.

Sunday May 21st, 3pm at Central Lutheran, Yakima

Chris has been preaching and leading worship at Christ Lutheran for some time already. But now the congregation has issued a letter of call for him to serve as their regular pastor. So, all are invited to celebrate with Chris as he is installed as pastor of Christ Lutheran on Sunday, May 21 at 3pm (Central Lutheran is on 1604 West Yakima Ave in Yakima).

Welcome NAMI! (National Alliance on Mental Illness)

NAMI asked to use our church facilities for their meetings and we said yes. They plan to meet in the fellowship hall the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month from 6:30 to 8:00 starting in May.

Mental health issues are on the rise in our country, for people of all ages. So it is good for us to support the work of NAMI.

Colleen Steward is one of the group leaders.

Weekend Nutrition

Update on Weekend Nutrition outreach - First Lutheran Church currently supplies elementary schools Lincoln, Ida Nason, and Damman a total of 41 bags each week for Weekend Nutrition.  Each of these bags contain food for 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and 2 dinners.  They are hugely appreciated by all three schools, and, we have been told, is the only food some of the children see all weekend.  Thank you, First Lutheran, for your generous support of this important outreach.

Thank You Betty & Choir!

Before Choir takes a break for the summer we want to say a big “Thank You!” to Betty Kramlich our director and accompanist. And we also say a big “Thanks” to all the Sopranos, Altos, Tenors and Basses for enhancing our Sunday Worship Services with your beautiful anthems. Thank you for all your practicing and beautiful music to the glory of God!
