FLCW December Lunch: Our annual First Lutheran Church Women (FLCW)

Christmas lunch will be Wednesday, December 14th at 12:00 p.m. at Rodeo City Bar-B-Q. (In the room with the fire place.) You will be able to order from the menu. All women are welcome!

Service of Lessons and Carols Sunday, December 18th at 3p.m. at Grace

Episcopal Church. The choirs, including First Lutheran, will sing separately and together. There will be some wonderful solos and pastors from different churches will read the Bible lessons. The congregation will join in singing a number of the carols. Refreshments afterwards, of course. This annual worship service has become quite a community wide event, so come a bit early to find parking and seating.

Thank you to everyone who helped to decorate and set up, who brought delicious food, and who helped to clean up at the Scandinavian Dinner. We served about 175 people and had a wonderful time of fun and fellowship! God Jul!

Community Christmas Basket

In past years, we have had small tags on the bulletin board with food or gift items written on them and people were asked to choose tags, purchase the items, and bring them back to the church.

Again this year instead of bringing in food and gifts, we are asking that you donate money you would have spent on these items because ...

Thrivent will match all monetary donations up to $1,600, thereby doubling what is given! Look for a Thrivent officer at a table in the fellowship hall on Dec. 4, 11, and 18 or you may place your check in the offering plate .

Please write any checks payable to:”First Lutheran” with “Christmas Basket” on the memo line so your donation can be matched. The money collected will be used to purchase items for the baskets. Remember, all proceeds up to $1,600 will be matched by Thrivent!

Christmas Eve Worship Services 7:00 and 10:00 pm. Everyone is invited to celebrate the birthday of our Savior Jesus on Saturday, December 24th. We’ll hear about the birth of Jesus, God’s Son, from the Bible. We’ll sing Christmas carols by candlelight and celebrate holy communion. “Joy to the World, the Lord is Come!”

Christmas Day Worship, Sunday 10a.m.

Joint Youth Night: Remember that we have a very special “joint” Youth Night planned for December 14. Like last year, we’ll gather together with Ignition, the Chestnut Street Baptist Church Youth Group. The night begins at our regular time, 6:30, at Chestnut Street. Part way through the night, we’ll all walk to FLC, and finish our time together around 8:30. All Youth, sixth through twelfth grade, are invited to join us.

Late, Late Youth Night: Looking for a great way to bid farewell to 2011? Join us at FLC for Late, Late Youth Night on New Year’s Eve (Saturday). We’ll meet from 7:00 to 12:30 for games, snacks, baking, music, movies, board games, and a brief chapel service. All

middle and senior high school students are invited (of course, we welcome people who like being around middle and senior high students). Please sign up so we have an idea of how much food to get. Also, we’d love to have some adult chaperones!

Winter Youth Retreat: The Winter Youth Retreat isn’t far away. During Presidents’ Day Weekend, FLC Youth will travel to Lazy-F Ranch for a couple nights away in the snow. It will be a time for play and worship, including running in the woods, tubing, skating, and avoiding snowballs. We will also sing and study as we set ourselves apart devoted to God and his people. Watch for more information and a sign-up sheet. We are restricted to the first twenty people signed up. There will be a $30/per person cost.

Friday, February 17–Sunday morning, February 19.

Event Planning Meeting: Following next Sunday’s morning worship, the Youth will have a brief Event Planning Meeting. Anyone interested in the Youth program is welcome to join us. We’ll discuss Late, Late Youth Night and other upcoming events.

Youth Updates: Do you want Youth updates through e-mail? If so, please e-mail Joe at to be included on our news and events e-mail list. You can also watch the bulletin, the FLC web site, the Youth Facebook page, and the FLARE for more information.
