First Communion Classes For Fourth Graders Sundays, Feb. 24 & March 3rd 11:30 a.m. I am inviting all fourth graders (and older) in our church to join me for the first communion classes. You have been coming to the altar to receive a blessing during the Lord’s Supper, but now you are old enough to begin receiving the bread and wine, the body and blood of Jesus Christ. All fourth graders (and older students who have not yet received communion instruction) are invited to attend 2 short classes with me on Sunday February 24th and March 3rd at 3p (or after worship if that works better for the group). Parent(s) are encouraged to attend with their son or daughter and the classes will last about an hour. Please plan on attending both Sundays. We’ll taste the bread and wine and we’ll read Dan Erlander’s great little book, “A Place For You: My Holy Communion Book.”
There will be a craft project to do and the kids will receive their first communion during worship on Sunday, March 10th, or at any time after that. Please let Pastor Dennis know if you will be attending, Church 925-2844 or home 933-2605.
F.I.S.H. needs: cold cereal, tuna fish, soups: cream of mushroom, tomato and chicken noodle. "FLC" gave at least 2300 lbs. of food to FISH in 2012. This isn't a totally accurate number because during the fires and their aftermath, the scales were covered with food! Thanks you for your regular donations. Outreach

Thank you for the recent gift of $2,033.52 to the ELCA Malaria Campaign. In 11 African nations, gifts like yours make it possible for malaria education programs to start teaching neighbors how to recognize and prevent malaria. For example, already in the first half of 2012, awareness sessions have been held more than twice weekly by Lutheran Churches throughout Zimbabwe. Trained professionals have reached thousands of people. Even as this work goes on, medical clinics are being equipped and staffed for the treatment of those who have been infected, thanks to your generosity. Lenten Prayer for Hungry People First Week in Lent February 17-23
Deuteronomy 26:1-11 Romans 10:8b-13 Psalm 91:1-2, 9-16 Luke 4:1-13
Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. —Luke 4:1-2a
You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.’ —Psalm 91:1-2
Prayer: O Christ, in your death and resurrection, you have conquered all the forces of evil. During these days of Lent, may we be strengthened by your Spirit, so that we might serve God by helping those who suffer from the evil of hunger. Amen
