Stewardship Stu here.. the other day a fundraiser for one of the Super PAC political
action committees told his audience that in order to defeat their opponent he had warned them that they would have to give until it hurt but it was becoming obvious that many of them had a rather low threshold for pain. The money just wasn't coming in as expected. We at First Lutheran are in a different situation. At the Annual Meeting we unanimously passed a very substantial budget that will meet our expenses and allow us to grow. By
being members of the congregation, by casting that vote, by stepping out in faith we have each accepted the responsibility of meeting those financial goals. To do that we all must increase the amount we set aside each week for our offering. I will increase my giving and I ask and expect you to increase yours as well. The Stewardship Committee has invited us to “Give until it feels good.” Please pray for our Church, our ministry, the growth of our outreach, and that each of us will be inspired to become more involved. Peace, Stu
First Lutheran will be cooking and serving dinner at our F.I.S.H. Food Bank on Saturday, February 25th. Please, let Pastor Dennis know if you can help with part or all of it. Set up starts about 3:00p.m., we serve at 5:00 p.m., then clean up follows.
“Our Thrivent chapter is using this as one of our projects and will be donating $800 to F.I.S.H. Thrivent members come out and volunteer some time.”
Please, stop by the bulletin board next to the kitchen and read all the wonderful thank you’s that are posted.
First Communion Classes for kids 4th grade and older. Sunday, February 26th and March 4th at 3:oo p.m. All Children 4th grade or older are invited to meet with Pastor Dennis for an hour on Sundays, 2-26 and 3-4. We’ll read Dan Erlander’s great little book “A Place for You,” taste the bread and wine and get you started on a Lord’s Supper art
project. Please let Pastor Dennis know if you are coming.
Church Phone Directory Update Do you have a new address, phone number, or other changes? If so, please stop by the free-standing bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall to make the changes for our 2012 directory. The annual publication isn’t just for members, but for members and friends of First Lutheran Church. If you don’t see your name and would like to be in the directory, please add your name to the list.
Our Eastern WA/ID Synod Assembly will be held in Wenatchee. April 27-29 (Friday-Sunday). First Lutheran can send two delegates (preferably a man and a woman) and the church pays your way. Registration is due by March 16th, so let Pastor Dennis know soon if you are interested.
Lenten Youth Nights During Lent we’ll continue our normal schedule of Wednesday Youth Nights... with a couple changes. First, we don’t have Youth Nights on February 22 or April 4—Ash Wednesday and Holy Week. More importantly, we’re inviting middle school students to join the high school for the season.
Come for Wednesday night “Bread and Soup” at 6:00 p.m. during Lent. When we begin study and Holden worship (usually around 6:45), Youth are invited to a brief study and game time.
Games? We hope to end each Youth Night during Lent with a game, so we need game leaders. If you’re interested in leading a game (Youth, or adults who want to join us), please sign up on the gym door.
Hoops of Hope You have a chance to make a world of difference by shooting baskets. “Hoops of Hope” is a free-throw shooting marathon to raise funds for HIV/AIDS
orphans worldwide. Sign up as an individual or as a team. Teams of 5-10 only pay $40 for registration, and individuals pay $10. If you register by March 3rd you are guaranteed a bright orange T-Shirt! For more information, or if any one is interested in forming a team, please check with Joe.
Saturday, March 10, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at Valley View
