Church Phone Directory Update: Do you have a new address, phone number, or other changes? If so, please stop by the free-standing bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall to make the changes for our 2014 directory. The annual publication isn’t just for members, but for members and friends of First Lutheran Church. If you don’t see your name and would like to be in the directory, please add your name to the list. Please put a check mark, next to your name to show that you have checked to make sure that your information is correct. Please, feel free to add your email address, if you would like it included in the directory. Thank you!

Our friend Opal Solberg, died January 20th at the age of 92. Her memorial service will be Sunday, February 16th at 3:00p.m.

Souper Bowl Sunday: TODAY “Super Bowl Sunday” — First Lutheran has an opportunity to join thousands of other congregations in gathering and donating funds to fight hunger. Youth will stand outside the sanctuary doors collecting donations for the “Souper Bowl of Caring.” Please bring a few extra dollars or healthy food to donate. All offerings will be given to FISH Food Bank. As we watch the Superbowl, let us not forget those who cannot afford a bowl of soup. Thrivent Financial will be matching up to $200 for the Souper Bowl of Caring fundraiser.

Winter Youth Retreat: During Presidents’ Day Weekend, FLC Youth will travel to Lazy-F Ranch for a couple days away in the snow. It will be a time for play and learning, including running in the woods, tubing, skating, and avoiding snowballs (if we have snow). This year we plan to cover 3 confirmation lessons, so bring your Bibles and notebooks. So Confirmation Students, we need you there! There will be a $30/per person cost, due Sunday, February 9th. Begins 4:00 Friday, February 14. We’ll return to the church after supper Saturday night. (Scholarships available if the cost is a hardship; see Pastor Dennis.)

Help warm a life and warm a heart. Please donate warm blankets and comforters to FISH Food Bank. To be dispersed to the homeless and those in need. Feel free to drop off at FISH 301 W. 2nd Ave or call 925-5990 for more questions. First Lutheran Church Quilters, gave 12 quilts to F.I.S.H.

Update on “Friday Backpack weekend food for kids:” It looks like Morgan Middle School is the most receptive to starting this free program, so that is where our FISH Food Bank will begin. Thank you to all who have already donated backpacks and the call goes out for more backpacks to make this weekend nutrition program for kids possible. There’s a box under the coat rack to receive backpacks. Thanks!

Blood Drive: Monday, February 10th 11-4 here at First Lutheran Church. To schedule an appointment or for more information please call 1-800-733-2767.

Thank you to the FLCW (First Lutheran Church Women) for your recent donation to the Church of Mary Magdalene and Mary’s Place. Your support provides hot meals, prison and hospital outreach, and spiritual comfort to homeless and formerly homeless women in Seattle. Your support and compassion for the women and children is very much appreciated.

First Communion Classes For Fourth Graders Sundays, Feb. 23 & March 2nd 3p (or after worship if you would rather). I am inviting all fourth graders (and older) in our church to join me for the first communion classes. You have been coming to the altar to receive a blessing during the Lord’s Supper, but now you are old enough to begin receiving the bread and wine, the body and blood of Jesus Christ.

All fourth graders (and older students who have not yet received communion instruction) are invited to attend 2 short classes with me on Sunday, February 23rd and March 2nd at 3p (or after worship if that works better for the group). Parent(s) are encouraged to attend with their son or daughter and the classes will last about an hour. Please plan on attending both Sundays. We’ll taste the bread and wine and we’ll read Dan Erlander’s great little book, “A Place For You: My Holy Communion Book.”

There will be a craft project to do and the kids will receive their first communion during worship on Sunday, March 9th, or at any time after that. Please let Pastor Dennis know if you will be attending, church 925-2844 or home 933-2605.
