A THRIVENT “CHOICE DOLLARS” reminder... Are you a Thrivent Financial member? If so, you may have Thrivent Choice Dollars available to help support First Lutheran Church. You have until March 31 to designate where these dollars are used or they go away. This money is NOT out of your account and comes directly from Thrivent but you have to designate where the funds are sent. You have to do this each and every year by March 31. Do not hesitate to put this on your “To-do List” this week! Call Thrivent Financial toll free at 1-800-847-4836 and let them know you want to assign your Thrivent Choice Dollars and they will assist you with this. (You can also direct online at, or by calling our local Thrivent representative in Yakima, Jay Kelley, at 509 494-3401.)

Weekend Nutrition—We are in need of food for weekend nutrition bags for 20 children at Lincoln Elementary and Damman School. Please bring your donations and place them in the box under the coat rack near the sanctuary doors. Examples include: Chef Boyardee cups, mac ‘n’ cheese cups, fruit or pudding cups, small crackers and cheese packs, basically anything that is easy for kids to open to eat for lunch or dinner. Bags are assembled here every Thursday for delivery to Lincoln. If you would like to donate money, we will buy the food—please write out your check to FLC and put “Weekend Nutrition” on the memo line. Thank you for your support!

Eastern Washington Idaho Synod Global Missions/ World Hunger Committee 40 Days of Giving Starts March 6, 2019: Lent 2019 As disciples of Jesus, we are called to a discipline that contends against evil and resists whatever leads us away from love of God and neighbor. I invite you, therefore, to the discipline of Lent – self-examination and repentance, prayer and fasting, sacrificial giving and works of love – strengthened by the gifts of word and sacrament. Let us continue our journey through these forty days to the great Three Days of Jesus’ death and resurrection. (Evangelical Lutheran Worship, Leaders Desk Edition) The world provides enough food for all, but more than 800 million people around the world face chronic hunger. We believe in a God of abundance, so as a church we live out our baptismal call to strive for a just world where all are fed.

This Lent, you and our congregation at First Lutheran Church in Ellensburg are invited to join together with fellow Lutherans to study, reflect, and give during the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s (ELCA) 40 days of Giving.

Experience how the grace of Christ moves us to engage in transformation works of love around the world through ELCA World Hunger as God calls us into the ministry of hope, liberation, and restoration. Journey into Lent as we explore the connections between our faith and our shared ministry to end hunger and poverty. Discover new ways to engage in the long-standing traditions and practices of Lent this year with:

A devotional calendar with ideas to engage in the Lenten Disciplines of self-examination and repentance, prayer and fasting, sacrificial giving and works of love. A weekly study with information about how your gifts to ELCA World Hunger are at work in the world. Additional Resources including an inspirational weekly email series and coin jar wrappers to invite children and families into the practice of giving to programs in order to end hunger and poverty.

ELCA World Hunger 40 days of giving resources may be ordered at: The Eastern Washington Idaho Synod has been faithful in providing $114,000 through congregational giving to ELCA World Hunger last year. We have as a goal to increase this giving to $125,000 during the current year. With 92 worshiping communities in the Synod, this represents an increase of about $120 per community.

Blessings for you as we approach the Lenten Disciplines of 2019!
