September 2015

Dear People of God,

Whew! It’s been a hot, dry and now smoky summer! As much as I love summertime, I think we are all looking forward to cooler temperatures and hopefully some rainfall and cleaner air. We continue to pray for farmers and ranchers who are struggling to hold on with little or no water. We continue to pray for people in Chelan, Holden Village and all who are in the paths of fires. We give thanks for all the firefighters in their hot, dangerous work and ask God’s protection upon them. We pray for wildlife and fish as they struggle to survive in the heat and the drought.

In spite of the weather, I hope that you found some time for R&R this summer. Cathy and I celebrated our 25th anniversary with a couple nights in Leavenworth, where we enjoyed some great bratwurst and microbrews. The Hickman’s enjoyed a family re-union on my mom’s side. It was great to re-connect with cousins, kissin’ cousins, aunts and uncles from Nebraska, California, Boston and Indiana. We were just up at Huntley Lodge near Teanaway Road. Apparently it was a Bible camp years ago and worked great since it sleeps 50 people and has large indoor and outdoor cooking and eating facilities. The Hickman’s also enjoyed two Mariner games at Safeco Field and they actually won both times! As usual I went for a number of long hikes in our wonderful Cascade Mountains. It was beautiful and cooler up in the mountains. But the only water is in the high lakes. There are almost no little creeks running.

Well, the month of September always brings big changes for children, parents, students and teachers. The month of September brings big changes for our church as well. Many ministries start up again after taking a summer rest. Sunday School and Adult education start up on September 20th. Confirmation classes begin on Wednesday September 16th. Preschool and quilters begin on September 9th.

Whatever the season, spring, summer, winter or fall, we ask God’s Holy Spirit to guide us. We thank our Creator Father for all we have, knowing that every good gift comes from his hand. And we trust in the loving grace of our Savior Jesus Christ and seek to follow him. As Jesus says in John 14:6, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.”

Serving God and neighbor together with you,

Pastor Dennis
